On a request from Port Aventura S.A. a timber cladding has been applied to the exterior facades of the buildings Gold River Saloon, Grand Opera, Mary Joes House and Lucy’s Mansion in the Hotel Gold River at Port Aventura to make them fit into the theme and give them the appearance of a township in the Far West.

Various types of timber joints and platforms in Dutch pine are used to vary the homogeneity of the facades and make them into multiple and varied wooden buildings, simulating the various building styles of the time.

The process used to deal with the facades was the following:

- First step, applying to the facade of the basic building structure a breathable waterproof coating with sealed joints, as an element for water proofing and protection against wind.

- Second step, vertical fixing of wooden frameworks of Dutch pine of 100x62mm, treated in the autoclave for class 3 use and fireproofed to classification B-s2,d0. Secured with galvanized steel brackets to the building framing, separated by 3m between each level.

- Third step, securing with mechanical fixings of various types (toothed points and needles) timber joints and platforms of Dutch pine, treated in the autoclave for class 3 use and fireproofed to classification B-s2,d0. The joints and platforms are of different sections, from 150x20mm to split logs of 300x50mm.

The ageing of the finishes of the timber for the Golden Clover and Grand Opera buildings was achieved with special mineral pigments during the autoclave treatment process for protection of the wood.

The lacquered finishes of Lucy’s Mansion building were achieved with an external gloss painting process on a water base, with class 3 use and fireproofing to B-s2,d0. The principal colours of the finishes are RAL 1013 (white), NCS S 1515-Y70R (pink), NCS S 6020-R90B (blue) and NCS S 4040-Y80R (tile red).

The decorative elements forming the facades, such as railings, shutters, corbels and lintels of the windows, are made in Dutch pine with the same type of protective treatment as for the timber facades.

The structural elements of the facades, such as the porches, balconies, canopies, are made in Douglas pine with the same type of protective treatment as for the facades (pillars of section 30x30cm, beams of 24x12cm and rafters of 16x10cm).
